Royal History: Duchess of York Gives Birth to a Baby Girl

The Duchess of York cuddles newly born Princess Beatrice. Image: USNews
London, Aug. 8, 1988 - The Duchess of York has given birth to a healthy baby girl, Associated Press reports. This is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York.

The child is currently the fifth in line to the British throne. She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces. A statement from Buckingham Palace revealed that the baby and the mother are both in good condition.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York and second son of Queen Elizabeth II, was with his wife when she was ''safely delivered of a daughter at 8:18 P.M. today,'' according to Palace source.

In a statement last May, the couple wished to name their baby girl Annabel.

''All members of the royal family are very pleased with the news,'' a palace spokesman said later.

Buckingham Palace officials posted a bulletin on the gates of Buckingham Palace as part of tradition.

It seems that luck will abide the life of the baby princess. She was born 18 minutes past 8 P.M. on the eighth day of the eighth month of 1988, which many believe as a sign of good fortune.

(The baby girl was not however named Annabel. She was baptized Beatrice Elizabeth Mary)

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge name their Baby Boy George

Prince George of Cambridge is cradled in his mother's arms.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis.

The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

George is a favorite name in the family. The Queen's father and grand father both took the name George upon ascension to the throne (George V and VI). George was also the name of the second Duke of Cambridge, a first cousin of Queen Victoria. The first four Hanoverian kings were all Georges (George I through IV), too.

However, the couple insisted the baby is not named after the two kings, instead, they took the name because it means farmer or earth worker.

Meanwhile, Louis was the name of Prince Philip's uncle, the former Prince Louis of Battenberg, who became Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

Meanwhile, Alexander is a name that is expected to appeal much to Scottish ears, given that King Alexander III was one of the greatest Scottish kings ever.

It is highly possible that the baby will soon rule as George VII.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Leave Hospital for Kensington Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left hospital for Kensington Palace with their new baby son. The couple revealed that they haven’t chosen a name for the baby yet.

Prince William and Kate were filled with joy as they wave to the well-wishing crowds and to the awaiting cameras eager to take snapshots of the royal baby.

The Duchess was moved by the outpour of support : “It's been very emotional. Any parent will know what this feeling is like.”

Prince William was carefully cradling their baby prince as he followed the steps his parents Charles and Diana as they took with him home to Kensington Palace about 31 years ago, when he was born there on June 21, 1982.

“He's a big boy, quite heavy. We're still working on a name,” Prince William told reporters.

“Well he has a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure,” he added.

Royal Baby Update: Britain Prepares for the Birth of Baby Cambridge

Britain is one with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they
get ready for the coming of the royal baby.

Six days to go and Britain’s third-in-line to throne will see the light of this world. And everyone’s just excited for the coming of this baby!

Since the birth of Prince William in 1982, no royal birth has garnered such media attention until it was announced that Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, they are expecting their baby on July 13… or maybe sooner?

In fact, Mail Online reveals  that a privately chartered helicopter has already landed just outside the couple’s farmhouse in Wales. It will remain on stand-by to fly William – still working as a search-and-rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey – to his wife’s side in under two hours.  If possible, the Prince is hoping to drive Kate to hospital from their Kensington Palace home.

William and Kate, meanwhile, have still not picked a name, reports Mail Online. Instead, they decided to give the baby’s name right after giving birth.

And once the baby has been safely delivered, Prince William will have to make an “encrypted phone call” to Granny Liz, telling her that he’s now a proud daddy! Queen Elizabeth II is the luckiest person is the world to hear the news when Kate gives birth.

The Duke of Cambridge’s private secretary will then inform Prime Minister David Cameron, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and other government officials, after which an official note will be placed in a glass fronted easel and attached to the gates of the palace. The leaders of the Commonwealth countries and the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will have to be informed, too.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles is getting ready to start a new phase of his life, becoming a first-time grandfather. In fact, on his trip to Kenfig, near Bridgend, South Wales, he surprised a ladies’ circle when he asked them for advice on his own impending grandfatherhood, reports Wales Online.

Since the royal birth will mean more media watchdogs will try to cash out this event, the government’s Advertising Standards Authority’s Committee of Advertising Practice warned the business and media sector to stick to guidelines in advertisements linked to the Royal baby. The agency made it clear that no member of the Royal Family should be shown or even mentioned in any advertisements, unless they have permission from the Lord Chamberlain’s Office.

And these and a baby, too. We can only hope for the best but for now, let’s stay tuned and stand by and pray the Kate will deliver a healthy baby, be it a boy or a girl.

Daughter for Duke and DUchess of Kent

Dec 26, 1936 The Glasgow Herald reports that the Duchess of Kent had given birth to a daughter at her home, 8 Belgrave Square, London, yesterday morning.

The following bulletin was issued from No. 3 Belgrave Square:

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Kent was safely, delivered of a daughter at 11.20 o'clock this morning.
Her Royal Highness and the infant Princess are doing excellently.
(Signed)
W. GILLIATT, M.D., F.C.O.G
A. E. GOW, M.D., F.R.C.P.
H.A. RICHARDS, D.A., M.R.C.S.

This is the first birth of a Prince or Princess in the British family to occur on Christmas Day for many years. Christmas Day is the birthday of the Duchess of Gloucester.

The Home Secretaru (Sir John Simon), who was at Walton Heath, was summoned to No. 3 Belgrave Square shortly before 10 o'clock yesterday morning. Constitutionally, the Home Secretary must be present at a royal birth.

Prince and Princess Nicholas of Greece, the Duchess of Kent's father and mother, were present. The princess had spent the night with her daughter after she and Prince Nicholas had dined with the Duke and Duchess.

The Palm Beach Daily News reports that after the little princess was safely delivered, the duke of kent supervised the dispatch of his Christmas presents to relatives and relatives and friends, a task which had been delayed by the impending addition to his family.
