Royal History: Duchess of York Gives Birth to a Baby Girl

London, Aug. 8, 1988 - The Duchess of York has given birth to a healthy baby girl, Associated Press reports. This is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York.

The child is currently the fifth in line to the British throne. She weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces. A statement from Buckingham Palace revealed that the baby and the mother are both in good condition.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York and second son of Queen Elizabeth II, was with his wife when she was ''safely delivered of a daughter at 8:18 P.M. today,'' according to Palace source.

In a statement last May, the couple wished to name their baby girl Annabel.

''All members of the royal family are very pleased with the news,'' a palace spokesman said later.

Buckingham Palace officials posted a bulletin on the gates of Buckingham Palace as part of tradition.

It seems that luck will abide the life of the baby princess. She was born 18 minutes past 8 P.M. on the eighth day of the eighth month of 1988, which many believe as a sign of good fortune.

Beatrice and Eugenie's German trip ends successfully

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were warmly greeted by flag-raising kids
at the end of their tour in Germany.

The German Kurier called them "the Merry Wives of Windsor who looked like college girls on their high heels." Sueddeutsche newspaper referred to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie as "hatless missionaries" of "quasi-B prominence among the young Royals - after the A-list to the Princes Harry and William and pregnant Kate" who were on their way for a "patriotic mission."

But all in all, the York girls' two-day German trip was a resounding success and Princess Beatrice of York, fresh from her claim to fame after wearing Phillip Treacy's overbearing hat, and her younger sister Eugenie was praised for "doing everything to make up for the lack of headgear - and even welcomed journalists with a few German words." Not even rain could dampen the spirit of flag-waving children who warmly turned out to greet Queen Elizabeth II's grand daughters, reports Mail online.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York were invited by Downing Street to act as the country's trade ambassadors, a position vacated by their father, Prince Andrew, who earned the popular rebuke as "Airmiles Andy" for his freeloading sprees. The trip ended in Hanover where they attended the opening of Herrenhausen Palace, rebuilt after being destroyed following World War II. They also visited the Equine Clinic at the University of Veterinary Medicine, where they fed Ben, a horse said to be suffering from a heart ailment.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie kick off German tour, drives through in Berlin

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie pose before Brandenburg gate.

It seems Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are having a great time driving around Berlin and promoting everything "Great" about Britain. The two Princesses are now in the German capital to embark on a year-long campaign in their capacity as Britain's trade ambassadors, a position recently held by their father, Prince Andrew.

"They flew to the German capital to support the Great Campaign, a global initiative to attract visitors, business and students to these shores," reports Telegraph online.

Their Berlin trip was highlighted by a "mini" drive-through in Berlin. After posing in front of the Brandenburg gate, 22-year-old Princess Eugenie of York drove the Union Jack emblazoned-car heading to the British Embassy nearby.

''The Great Campaign is designed to showcase the very best that we have to offer," 24-year old Princess Beatrice of York said on a short speech.

''2012 is already a year of amazing memories - but as 2013 begins we've got so much we'd love for people from around the world to come and enjoy - beautiful countryside; lively cities; and some of the world's most incredible museums and hundreds of unique historic places," she continues.

''The Great Campaign also has a serious business side - Britain has trend setting fashion, groundbreaking scientists, and innovative technology companies.

''It is also a welcoming home for investors. We're here to encourage more German businesses to join the thousands that are developing successful partnerships in Britain.''

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to work as UK trade ambassadors

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York
Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York are bound to follow their father's footsteps. On Thursday, they will begin  their work as Britain's trade ambassadors. Their first destination is Berlin, where they will perform a "year-long promotion of British Industry.

"On Friday, they will proceed to Hanover. However, their engagements are not "official" and their father, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, will shoulder the cost of their trip to hush any controversy which hounded him when he was still holding the post.

"They were asked to do it by No.10 and they were happy to do it. It’s all about raising awareness of the UK as a great place to visit or do business with," states a Buckingham Palace statesman.

Fashion reigns supreme at Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Royals wore their very best during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Queen Elizabeth II, ever the fashion icon, shone during the River Thames Parade in her shimmering, white handmade Angela Kelly crystal-studded coat and dress. Keen attention to detail took this Swarovski crystal studded outfit a year to make….. And it’s all worth it.

Meanwhile, darling of the press Duchess of Cambridge, was indeed the day’s lady in red. She wore a splendid red Alexander McQueen dress, matched by a stylish Sylvia Fletcher red hat from royal milliner James Lock & Co. As a nod to her Scottish title Countess of Strathearn, Kate carried a scarf made of Strathearn tartan.

Chic sisters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were both pretty in pink while boarding the Havengore. The Both wore eye-catching hats made by Stephen Jones.
