The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a new coat of arms

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Coat of Arms.
Image: The Prince of Wales's official website.

From the Prince of Wales's official website:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have a new Conjugal Coat of Arms which will represent them in heraldic terms as a married couple.

The Conjugal Coat of Arms was approved this year by The Queen and has been shown publicly for the first time today.

Designed by The College of Arms in London, Conjugal Arms traditionally show the separate shields of a Royal husband and wife, side by side.

The Duke’s shield on the left is his version of the Royal Coat of Arms granted to him by The Queen on his 18th birthday. On the right, The Duchess’s shield is from the Middleton family Coat of Arms,
granted to the family in 2011 ahead of her marriage.
The Conjugal Arms will be theirs forever, however as their circumstances and roles alter, elements of the accoutrements around the shields may change.  In addition to their Conjugal Arms, Their Royal Highnesses also retain their own Coats of Arms to represent themselves as individuals.

The Duchess of Cambridge was granted her own Coat of Arms by The Queen after her marriage. This was made by placing her father’s Arms beside those of her husband in what is known as an impaled Coat of Arms.

Heraldic Description of the Conjugal Coat of Arms

The shield on the left is taken from Coat of Arms granted to The Duke of Cambridge by The Queen on his 18th birthday. It shows the various Royal emblems of different parts of the United Kingdom: the three lions of England in the first and fourth quarters, the lion of Scotland in the second and the harp of Ireland in the third.

It is surrounded by a blue garter bearing the motto Honi soit qui mal y pense (‘Shame to those who think evil of it'), which symbolises the Order of the Garter, of which The Duke is a Knight Companion.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s shield on the right shows the Middleton family Arms, granted to her father Mr. Michael Middleton for the Middleton family in March 2011, prior to her marriage. The technical heraldic description of the Middleton Coat of Arms, known as a ‘blazon’ is Per pale Azure and Gules a Chevron Or cotised Argent between three Acorns slipped and leaved Or.

Per Pale means that the Shield is divided vertically with one half blue (Azure) and the other half red (Gules). A Chevron Or means the gold chevron across the centre of the Shield. There are cotises either side of the chevron which are white (Argent). Slipped means ‘with a stalk,’ so the final part of the blazon – and distinguishing feature of the Shield – means three acorns with gold stalks and leaves.

For its placement in the conjugal Arms, The Duchess of Cambridge’s shield is surrounded by a Wreath of Oak, to balance out the Duke’s garter. This is traditional for Royal Spouses who are not themselves entitled to surround their Arms with an order of chivalry.

Both shields are supported by The Duke of Cambridge’s Supporters of the Royal Lion and Unicorn wearing a three pointed collar, known as a label. The label has a red escallop shell derived from the Spencer Coat of Arms which has been used by The Duke's ancestors on his mother's side for many centuries.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge name their Baby Boy George

Prince George of Cambridge is cradled in his mother's arms.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis.

The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.

George is a favorite name in the family. The Queen's father and grand father both took the name George upon ascension to the throne (George V and VI). George was also the name of the second Duke of Cambridge, a first cousin of Queen Victoria. The first four Hanoverian kings were all Georges (George I through IV), too.

However, the couple insisted the baby is not named after the two kings, instead, they took the name because it means farmer or earth worker.

Meanwhile, Louis was the name of Prince Philip's uncle, the former Prince Louis of Battenberg, who became Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

Meanwhile, Alexander is a name that is expected to appeal much to Scottish ears, given that King Alexander III was one of the greatest Scottish kings ever.

It is highly possible that the baby will soon rule as George VII.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Leave Hospital for Kensington Palace

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have left hospital for Kensington Palace with their new baby son. The couple revealed that they haven’t chosen a name for the baby yet.

Prince William and Kate were filled with joy as they wave to the well-wishing crowds and to the awaiting cameras eager to take snapshots of the royal baby.

The Duchess was moved by the outpour of support : “It's been very emotional. Any parent will know what this feeling is like.”

Prince William was carefully cradling their baby prince as he followed the steps his parents Charles and Diana as they took with him home to Kensington Palace about 31 years ago, when he was born there on June 21, 1982.

“He's a big boy, quite heavy. We're still working on a name,” Prince William told reporters.

“Well he has a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure,” he added.

Royal Baby Update: Britain Prepares for the Birth of Baby Cambridge

Britain is one with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as they
get ready for the coming of the royal baby.

Six days to go and Britain’s third-in-line to throne will see the light of this world. And everyone’s just excited for the coming of this baby!

Since the birth of Prince William in 1982, no royal birth has garnered such media attention until it was announced that Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, they are expecting their baby on July 13… or maybe sooner?

In fact, Mail Online reveals  that a privately chartered helicopter has already landed just outside the couple’s farmhouse in Wales. It will remain on stand-by to fly William – still working as a search-and-rescue pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey – to his wife’s side in under two hours.  If possible, the Prince is hoping to drive Kate to hospital from their Kensington Palace home.

William and Kate, meanwhile, have still not picked a name, reports Mail Online. Instead, they decided to give the baby’s name right after giving birth.

And once the baby has been safely delivered, Prince William will have to make an “encrypted phone call” to Granny Liz, telling her that he’s now a proud daddy! Queen Elizabeth II is the luckiest person is the world to hear the news when Kate gives birth.

The Duke of Cambridge’s private secretary will then inform Prime Minister David Cameron, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and other government officials, after which an official note will be placed in a glass fronted easel and attached to the gates of the palace. The leaders of the Commonwealth countries and the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will have to be informed, too.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles is getting ready to start a new phase of his life, becoming a first-time grandfather. In fact, on his trip to Kenfig, near Bridgend, South Wales, he surprised a ladies’ circle when he asked them for advice on his own impending grandfatherhood, reports Wales Online.

Since the royal birth will mean more media watchdogs will try to cash out this event, the government’s Advertising Standards Authority’s Committee of Advertising Practice warned the business and media sector to stick to guidelines in advertisements linked to the Royal baby. The agency made it clear that no member of the Royal Family should be shown or even mentioned in any advertisements, unless they have permission from the Lord Chamberlain’s Office.

And these and a baby, too. We can only hope for the best but for now, let’s stay tuned and stand by and pray the Kate will deliver a healthy baby, be it a boy or a girl.

Tom Sykes: Why Prince William is powerless to protest new Kate pics

Here’s an interesting article written by The Daily Beast’s “royalist” Tom Sykes. Here, he talked about Prince William’s powerlessness in stopping the press people from publishing Kate’s bikini-clad photos, while showing a little sign of baby bump.

Royal fury after magazines publish Kate's bikini-clad images while vacationing in Mustique

Italian magazine publishes photos showing  Duke and
Duchess of Cambridge while on holiday in Mustique

The Duke of Cambridge and his pregnant duchess Kate only wanted to take a break from the husle and bustle of royal life. So off the seemingly honey-mooning couple and took the flight (withe the Middletons) to Mustique, the fabled Caribbean island, once the favorite destination of the Queen's late sister, Princess Margaret. But little do we know--and little do the royal couple know that while strolling on the shoreline, bikini-clad Kate (with the sign of baby bump apparent), was already photographed by a prying lense.

Now, royal fury is on "after Italian and Australian magazines published these photos, while more publications around the around are lined up to do the same," reports Mail online.

St. James's Palace has officially released a statement saying that the act was "a clear breach of privacy, calling the pictures "violating."

Mail online further reports that foreign publishers obtained the rights to publish the images for a whooping  £100,000.

Fiona Connolly, editor of the Australian magazine, Woman's Day, said that the royal couple are "not protected species" outside Britain. However, Mustique is a private island and papparazi is banned there. Nevertheless, Connolly claimed that the images were taken by a foreigner.

The Duchess of Cambridge, now around 12 weeks pregnant, shows signs of baby bumps and she managed to retain that ever-glowing look and slender physique. The images here were taken after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge paid a visit to the National Portrait Gallery to check out the first official portrait of Her Royal Highness. Despite her recent bout with ill-health after it was revealed that she was pregnant, the Duchess is now back in good health. She celebrated her 31st birthday just recently and her
impeccable sense of style," as reported by Mail Online, was imminent in her classy burgundy chiffon dress matched by her "trusty black court shoes."

John Major: William and Kate reinvigorated monarchy

Former Prime Minister John Major admitted in an interview with CNN that the duke and duchess of Cambridge have done much to modernize the monarchy and reinvigorate its popularity.

The duke and duchess of Cambridge have done much to revitalize the public's
interest and support to the royal family.
Major was once Prince William’s guardian after the late Princess of Wales’ death. He maintains close personal ties with the monarchy and was made a Knight of the Garter in 2005, the highest honor that the queen can bestow.

In an interview with CNN, Major notes: "People see that iconic figures -- whom they see only at a distance and they perhaps never meet -- have the same emotions, same feelings, the same cares, the same loves that they have in their own lives. I think the Royal Family has communicated that better in the last couple of decades than perhaps at any earlier time in our history and it has had an impact."

Speaking of the role of the duke Cambridge in modernizing the royal family, he said: "People are very happy with the way he has risen to the challenges he faced and I think even more than that, they see him as a very human individual and I think that is very important."

And as for Kate, Major was all-praises for the newly-minted duchess, saying: "I think that Catherine has been faultless so far and I think the whole world has seen that.”
