Prince Harry may not see front line action again

Prince Harry

It seems that we will miss seeing Prince Harry in his camouflage suit. The 28-year old heir to throne won’t be expected to see much action after Telegraph online Prince-Harry-unlikely-to-see-front-line-action-again.html has revealed that there are “no plans for him to return to Afghanistan.”

Although the Prince remains enthusiastic for a third posting in the Afghan front, his Apache squadron however won’t be in action until 2014.

The Prince is now talking a month-long vacation after his 20-week posting to Camp Bastion. He will resume active service to Wattisham airfield in Suffolk, the base of his Army Air Corps squadron. He is expected to mentor co-pilots who are up for promotion.

Prince Harry is currently a Captain in the Royal Airf Force. This makes him eligible to hold staff jobs based although he could also opt to remain “a pilot for another 10 years or more,” if he really wants to go to action should Britain go to war.

As for his royal duties, Prince Charles’ younger son might go on an overseas tour come springtime. His most recent visit to the Caribbean last year has been a resounding success.

Prince Harry kills Taliban fighters

Prince Harry kills Taliban fighter

In an interview with The Telegraph, Prince Harry admitted of killing Taliban fighters after his 20-week duty in Afghanistan has officially ended. The 28-year old Prince, third in line to throne, is expected to arrive home on Wednesday.

The prince manned the Apache helicopter pilot’s weapons system, and he had “his finger on the trigger of its rockets, Hellfire missiles and 30mm cannon, flying scores of missions to destroy Taliban targets and protect British servicemen on the ground.”

Captain Wales, as he is know, with 662 Squadron, 3 Regiment Army Air Corps, hinted that his active involvement in the Afghan front enabled him to kill enemy fighters, saying: “Yeah, so lots of people have. The squadron’s been out here. Everyone’s fired a certain amount.

“Take a life to save a life, that’s what we revolve around, I suppose. If there’s people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we’ll take them out of the game, I suppose,” he said.

This was the second time that Prince Harry was assigned in Afghanistan. The first instance was when he was with the Household Cavalry, although that trip had to be cut short because “a media blackout was broken”.

He also mentioned his dislike of being stationed at Camp Bastion and said he’d rather be on foot patrols instead of flying the Apache.

It’s plain to see that the Prince was just doing his job. “It’s not the reason I decided to do this job,” he said. “The reason to do this job was to get back out here and carry on with a job.”

“When you fire, you still get the cordite smell, which is bizarre. The whole floor vibrates and when you fire a missile the whole aircraft shudders a little bit.

“It’s not like any normal helicopter, as you can imagine.”

The Prince made it clear that he will give top priority on his military duties, more than his role as a royal.

“I am the Queen’s grandson and all that good stuff and I love representing her, but to be honest with you and as far as I see it, and as far as William sees it as well, our service towards our country in the military in whichever shape or form it takes will always come first.

“I will always be here for my grandmother and who needs to send me abroad for whatever reason. I don’t really have any plans. But this was my main plan, to get back out to Afghanistan,” he said.

Prince Charles worries about Harry

Prince Charles

"If you are a parent or relation to a loved one and that person is away in these incredibly dangerous and challenging circumstances, I know you worry all the time," Prince Charles said in an interview, who aired his concern over Prince Harry's safety in the Afghan front, where he serves as a helicopter pilot for the armed forces.

“I constantly meet the families of those who have lost their sons, husbands, brothers or sisters… and I have some understanding at least of what they go through." the 65-year-old heir to the throne said.

Prince Harry to expand charity

Prince Harry photographed here with one of the many
orphan-recipients of Santebale.

Prince Harry plans to expand his African charity Sentabale to five countries and quadruple its income to 8 million pounds annually, reveals Sentabala CEO Cathy Ferrier in an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph. Despite Prince Harry's current assignment in Afghanistan, where he serves as an Apache helicopter pilot, Ferrier reveals that the charity's founder "is so hands on that he emails her from Camp Bastion once a fortnight to keep up with developments."

“He keeps in email contact from Afghanistan,” she explains. “If there are any developments I make sure he is aware of them, so if we need his sign-off or need to make sure he is supportive of something I will contact him. I probably email him in Afghanistan every other week.”

Prince Harry is very interested to expand the Sentabale's reach out to other south African countries.

"Sentebale has been beset by controversy in the past, having been criticised for high start-up costs and spending too much on administration and not enough on direct help for the poor, and Prince Harry has described its progress as a 'roller-coaster' since it began in 2006," writes The Telegraph. However, Ferrier revealed that the charity is now out of limbo and has already spread awareness and attracted numerous donors. This year, the charity will launch its own garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Sentebale is Prince Harry's response to the abject poverty and the sufferings endured by children in Lesotho, one of the country's poorest. Since its founding, Sentebale has already helped orphans, many of them are HIV-Infected

“We have researched nine other countries in southern Africa which have similar problems to Lesotho, with a high number of orphans and high HIV infection rates, and we have a short-list of four countries,” Ferrier revealed.

“We still have an absolute commitment to doing all we can in Lesotho, but we want to take the programme to other countries because there is huge unmet need.”

Santebale is the African term for "forget-me-not."

Royalty in a Glance

Prince Harry deployed in Afghanistan
Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations placed the Monarchy’s popularity at an all-time high. But not for too long. Since staying tuned at the Diamond celebrations, I haven’t stayed that much hooked up, reeling behind a busy schedule that kept me further away from keeping this blog running.

To make up for all my failure to keep this stuff posted, let’s take a little look up on some of the hottest news that shook the world of royalty in the past two months.

Prince Harry and the Naked Photo Scandal.

What happens in Vegas doesn't really stay in Vegas.
Proof: Prince Harry's nude photos went viral online.
Ever the playboy prince, Prince Harry really knows that good times mean…. And he means it with the naked photos that surfaced last Tuesday. According to TMZ, Prince Harry went down the bar of his Las Vegas hotel where he invited some hot chicks to check out his suite.

But what happened was a wild strip game that turned out into nudity. Party goers didn’t miss the chance and they immediately snapped photos of Harry with his hands covering his genitals while woman standing behind him.

In another photo, the Prince was seen bear-hugging another woman who is also naked.  Then followed the publishing frenzy of the photos showing the prince in compromising position while seemingly having time with friends. The prince stayed mum about the issue and it seems the scandal has been cooling down from what was obviously a volcanic that saw the government battling the press to prevent those photos from scattering online and in print. The American media immediately printed the photos, although their British counterpart were hesitant to do so since Clarence House warned them that they could be liable to the Press Complaints Commission for doing so.

Prince Harry Assigned to the Afghan Front

On Sept. 7, perhaps, perhaps in an effort to shield the Prince away from the nude scandal, he was deployed to Afghanistan for four months, where he will take part on a combat against the Taliban. He was earlier deployed to the Afghan front in 2007-2008. Prince Harry will have “difficult and demanding job. And I ask that he be left to get on with his duties and allowed to focus on delivering support to the coalition troops on the ground,” says Royal Navy Captain Jock Gordon, Commander of the Joint Aviation Group.

Duchess of Cambridge’s Topless Photos

On Sept. 13, the Daily Mail and New York Times reported that the French edition of "la presse people" magazine Closer published a photograph of the Duchess sun-bathing topless while on holiday at the Château d'Autet. Analysts from The Times believe that the photograph was taken from the D22 (Vaucluse) road from a distance of 500 m from the pool - a distance that would require an 800-mm or a 1000-mm lens.

On 17 September 2012, BBC reports  the couple laid a criminal complaint to the French Prosecution Department and launched a claim for civil damages at the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Nanterre; the following day the courts granted an injunction against Closer prohibiting further publication of the pictures and also announced that a criminal investigation would be initiated.

Death of Princess Ragnhild of Norway

Princess Ragnhild of Norway
On Sept. 16, Princess Ragnhild of Norway, elder sister of King Harald, passed away. She was the eldest child of King Olav and Princess Martha of Sweden. Born June 9, 1930, she married industrialist Erling Lorentzen in 1953, and with him, she moved to Brazil. An obituary by the Telegraph writes: “In 2004 the Princess attracted some controversy when, in an interview with Norway’s TV2 station, she declared that she disapproved of the spouses chosen by Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and his sister Princess Märtha Louise… and went so far as to say that she hoped she would be dead before Mette-Marit became Queen.”

Death of Princess Lalla Amina of Morocco.

On Aug. 16, Princess Lalla Amina, aunt of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, died of undisclosed illness. She was born on  April 8, 1954, she was the youngest daughter of King Mohammed V. Since 1999, the Princess was President of Morocco’s Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports.

Sultan of Brunei's Daughter's Lavish Wedding.

Sultan of Brunei's daughter's wedding
Sept. 24, the world’s eyes were tuned on the lavish wedding of Princess Hajah Hafiza Sururul Bolkiah, fifth daughter of Sultan of Brunei. She was 32, while her groom, civil servant Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini, was 29. The opulent ceremony was held at the Throne Hall of Istana Nurul Iman palace, so far the world’s largest inhabited palace, witnessed by more than 2,000 guests, including members of the Brunei Royal Family, as well as royalties from Malaysia, Japan, Jordan, and Great Britain.

Princes William and Harry give a tell-all interview with Katie Couric

Katie Couric interviews Prince William at Clarence House

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge shares with Katie Couric  how he’d wanted his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, to meet Kate on his wedding day.

The prince said it was the 'one time' since she died that he'd really missed his mother and he'd felt 'sad' knowing she wouldn't be there.

William opened up during an interview at Clarence House, where he lives with Kate, for the U.S. show The Jubilee Queen with Katie Couric, screened on ABC last May 29.

'I sort of prepared myself beforehand so that I was sort of mentally prepared,' he said. 'I didn’t want any wobbly lips or anything going on,' Prince William told Couric in the interview ahead of the celebrations in honour of the Queen's 60-year reign.
Interview with Prince Harry in Brazil

'It was the one time since she's died where I've thought to myself it would be fantastic if she was here. And just how sad really, for her more than anything, not being able to see it.

'I think she would have loved the day and I think, hopefully, she’d be very proud of us both for the day.  I’m just very sad that she’s never going to get a chance to meet Kate.'

Prince Harry shares the same, too it was a poignant moment, as he felt his mother's absence acutely, knowing especially that 'she would have loved Kate.'

'I think she had the best seat in the house probably,' Harry said. 'She would have loved to have been there.'

Harry, who acted as his brother's best man, also confessed he was 'massively nervous' on his brother's wedding day.

'Everybody was nervous,' he said. 'The whole thing was a bit of a blur to be honest because there was God knows how many millions or billions of eyes focused on us. Luckily, mainly those two.'

'Honestly it was one of those days where you feel very elated. Also completely terrified, I have to be honest. The prospect of two billion people watching was quite daunting.'

Royal biographer Penny Junor, the author of 'Prince William: The Man Who Will Be King', writes that Prince Charles and Diana's highly publicized affairs left a lasting impact on their son’s life that it contributed to Prince William's delayed marriage proposal to now-wife Kate Middleton, claiming that the second in line to the throne was worried if he will stick to one one woman.

'The problem was William: he had very real worries about whether it was possible to love just one woman. After his hurricane childhood, he was understandably cautious about committing to a relationship,' Junor writes in the book.

Katie Couric, she was 'trepidatious' to ask the princes about Diana because it was 'so personal and private', also talked to the princes about their relationship with the Queen.

The stories that the heirs to the throne shared shows that they have a very close bond with her, one that is much more normal than expected.

'I still think she's just my grandmother, really,' Prince William shares when asked there was a moment when he though her grandmother was not like like everyone else's.

But continued, admitting: ''When I was younger and my parents used to always slap my hand if I was picking my nose or if I was running around screaming I was told to shut up. And I sort of understood that when I was around her I needed to be a little but more low key and little bit more polite.'

Meanwhile, Prince Harry, who was talking to Couric in Brazil, said he couldn't imagine taking on the responsibility that the Queen did in 1953.

'This tour itself has been a brief insight as to what she had to deal with at a very young age,' Harry said. 'What she's achieved and what she's done and at the age of 25, confronted with the world's media. You can see it in her face now. You can see it in the way that she parades herself is just so immaculate.'

When it comes to family though, he said his grandmother is 'really very very normal. Very relaxed. She obviously takes a huge interest in what we all do, that's her children as well as her grandchildren.

'She wants to know which charities we're supporting, how life is going in our jobs and such. So you know, she has a vested interested in what we do.'

And it seems her interests go beyond what her own twenty-something grandsons are up to.
Joking about the Queen's Facebook page, he lamented that she hadn't 'friended' him yet and asked Couric whether she had received any friend requests from his grandmother herself.

'She's managed to get the family to move with the times and I think that's incredibly important. You can't get stuck in an old age situation when everything else around you is changing so you have to go with it,' he said approvingly.

From William's description of his first meeting to discuss the royal wedding, it would appear however, that when it comes to business versus family, Britain's monarch does not waste time in prioritising.

'I was given a list in the first meeting, of 777 names, and not one of them on there I knew,' he recalled. 'And I wasn't too happy about it so I rang her for a bit of moral support, and a bit of back up, and she said "don't be so ridiculous. Get rid of the list and start from your friends."'

Prince William to inherit £10 million when he turns 30

Prince William, pictured here with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge,
will be £10 million richer next month.

Prince William is set to inherit his 10-million share in his mother’s fortunes when he turns 30 next month.

Diana, the late Princess of Wales, left a residue estate valued at nearly  £13 million, after a deduction of  £8.5 million was made for death duties, to be divided equally by her two songs, Princes William and Harry.

Sheer investments by the late princess’ executors, particularly her sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale, more than doubled the trust.

Sources said that Prince William might use his inheritance to buy a house for him and Kate, possibly close to Prince Charles’ Highgrove retreat. Or, he could vary his mother’s will to allow Prince Harry to inherit a larger share of the capital, knowing that one day William is set to inherit a more sizable income when he becomes Duke of Cornwall.

Prince William, who earns £40,000 a year as a RAF search-and-rescue pilot, draws an already-sizable income from his allowance from the Prince of Wales and from a trust fund left by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
