My 3rd Mother's Day

On Sunday, May 12, 2013, I was blessed to celebrate my third Mother's Day. Lily was born on February 10, 2013, so now I have rung in three Mother's Days with my precious angel.

This Mother's Day was extra special because it was my first time celebrating Mother's Day as a mother of two. I am so, so blessed to be given the opportunity to raise two beautiful little daughters. I wouldn't change anything about either one of them for the world. Although I tell people I don't recommend getting pregnant when you have a 10 month old...as a 19 month age difference is a bit of challenge...I know one day life will get easier and I'll be so glad I have two kids close in age. I pray every day that Lily and Brinley become best friends. I never had the opportunity to have a sister and I just love fostering the sisterly bond between my two baby girls. There is a about a 1% chance Clint and I will decide to have a third baby down the road...but pretty much a 99% chance that we won't at this point! I feel like I have the two children that God wanted me to have and Clint is completely fine with no baby boys in the house. Clint has already helped his best friend Steve as an Assistant Coach for his 4 year old son Cooper's t-ball games...so he can just have more of that in his future and maybe cheer on Scott's son Connor as well! I actually think Lily is going to be really good at sports, especially if I start her young. Lily loves to run, exercise, and play catch. She also gets to play t-ball at school and I've seen her whack the ball pretty good. Another thing I've noticed about Lily is that she almost never cries when she falls or hurts herself. She will have bleeding knees or band her head pretty hard on the furniture and she just gets right up and keeps on going. I love that she is a tough cookie and never tries to milk her falls for extra TLC! If she didn't love hair bows and glitter so much, I'd say I might have a tom boy in the making!

Back to Mother's Day...this year we joined forces and celebrated all three moms in my life (My mom, Clint's mom, and myself) with a big family lunch at Olive Garden. All four Coopermans, three Albrittons, and my two girls were there. We had a great time and as always dining out with kids is so much better with the grandparents and uncle around! I ran into my friend Tiffany Lane (now Bellflower) from elementary/high school who had the most beautiful little toddler named Lanie in tow. I was telling my mom about the trend of naming kids after the wife's maiden name...too bad Cooper or Cooperman would make a pretty awful little girl's name! :)

After lunch, my wonderful parents offered to take our Pilot back to their house with the girls in it, so Clint and I could go to a movie by ourselves. I can guarantee you that Clint would never, ever turn down such a proposition. I've been dying to see the Jackie Robinson movie ever since I saw the actor who plays Jackie promoting the film on Letterman. The I wanted to see it even more two Sunday's ago when the priest at St. Peter's was talking about how much he loved the movie in his sermon. It did not disappoint! I absolutely loved it...such a great story...and an important one for American History. I can see why the priest liked it too...there are a lot of biblical references and Christianity is an important theme throughout the movie. One line of the movie was pretty funny to us as people who got married and baptised our kids in the Methodist church: The manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers was looking through player files to select an African American ball player to come on to the scene of all-white baseball and begin integrating the sport. Branch says, "He's a Methodist. I'm a Methodist. And God's a Methodist. I want Jackie Robinson." That got some laughs in the theater. Most people in our theater clapped when the movie was over as a tribute to Jackie Robinson, I imagine. One of the reasons I like to see great movies in the theater. That, and the fact that I generally fall asleep at home on the couch. ;)

After the movie, we drove out to my parents house. On the way, I got a text from my friend Betsy that her Mother's Day compilation blog post was up. I gotta say I love my iPhone for allowing me to quickly and easily look at websites from the convenience of my car (being a passenger of course). It teared me up reading all the special ways kids tell their mommies they love them, even before they have the words to say it. Here is a link if you would like to check out her special post: http://www.thebootenfamily.blogspot.com/2013/05/thank-you-mommy-in-other-words.html

We made it out to my parent's house and scooped the girls up to get them home and ready for dinner, baths, and bedtime. Clint was leaving again for Miami the next morning (have I mentioned that May is the WORST month for his travel?!), so he helped clean the house as much as possible and get bottles, clothes, clean sheets/blankets, etc. ready for Monday.

It was a wonderful Mother's Day! Thankful to my girls for making me a mommy, and thankful to Clint for spoiling me so much. He got me a sweet card from the girls and write a cute message from them. He also "got me" a picture I really like (really I bought it myself and informed him it was mother's day gift!) that says: "A Mother's hug lasts long after she lets go". I'm trying to find the right spot in the house for it, it's pretty big and I don't have a lot of wall space. I'll post a picture when it's up. Clint also kept the girls on Saturday so I could get a haircut and then a pedicure with my friend Tera. Pedicures (especially ones with free mimosas!) with girlfriends are the absolute BEST! Tera and I could chat all day long...so the hour of pampering flew by!

A few days before Mother's Day, I got the sweetest card in the mail from my friend Ashleigh-Anne, wishing me a Happy Mother's Day. AA is so thoughtful, she gets cards for her own mother and mother-in-law but also for her "mom friends". I really wish I had thoght to do the same for some of my best friends who became moms for the first or second time last year (Kimmy, Jess, and Jenn- to name a few!) After feeling guilty for not being as thoughtful, I read AA's card twice and took it to work to sit on my desk because all mom's need encouragement from time to time! If you read this, thanks AA for being so thoughtful and making me feel like I can juggle all the balls of marriage, motherhood, work, and friends...even though I know you are far too complementary!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms, step moms, moms-to-be, and mother figures out there who nurture and care for precious children! Hope you all enjoyed your day!!!!
