Princess Marie opens annual music festival

August 27 - Princess Marie of Denmark opened the Tønder Music Festival, a major music event in the country that attracts musicians all over Europe. The princess, a patron of the said event, strolled the festival’s main site where she met participating musicians.

Russian Court orders reopening of the Imperial Family’s murder case

August 26 - Moscow’s Basmanny Court ordered the reopening of the murder case of Czar Nicholas II and his family. 

“This is an important step in our quest for the truth,” said German Lukyanov, the lawyer representing Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, claimant to the throne.

“The Russian people have the right to know what happened.” 

The imperial family’s murder was ordered by Vladimir Lenin and it was the revolutionary firing squad who carried out the act a few hours after midnight on July 17, 1918 in Ekaterinburg. The Tsar, his wife and five children, plus four servants were the victims of the shootings.

Prince Nikolaus of Greece marries Tatiana Blatnik amidst royal glitter and public cheer


  
August 25 - Prince Nikolaus of Greece, second son of King Constantine II of Greece, married his longtime girlfriend Tatiana Blatnik.

The wedding ceremony was held last August 25 at the Ayios Nikolaus Monastery on Spetses Island, three hours away from Athens.

Close friends and family – most of them royalty themselves – witnessed the happy couple as they solemnized their vow.

Among the high profile guests who attended the wedding are Queen Margrethe, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, and Princess Marie of Denmark; Queen Sofia, Prince Felipe, Princess Letizia, Infanta Elena, Infanta Cristina, and Iñaki Urdangarin of the Spanish Royal Family; and Crown Princess Victoria and his husband Prince Daniel of Sweden.

The Greek royal family are non-reigning since Greek voters abolished the monarchy in the 1970s. Since then, the family has been living in exile and most of them are based in London. However, the family are allowed to visit the country during special occasions.

Prince Harry to do a reality TV show

August 20 - It's official. Prince Harry, the youngest son of Prince Charles and the late Diana, princess of Wales will team up with DJ Goldie for a BBC 2 Reality TV show, entitled Goldie's Band - By Royal Appointment.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra attends first day of school


August 20 - Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway attended her first day of school Thursday just down the road from the Asker palace where she and her family lives. No royal treatment for the princess, even though she may one day sit as Norway's queen. She treated just like any other student.

Princess Marie attends Bogense Rose Festival

August 7 – Princess Marie of Denmark attended the annual rose festival in Bogense, a town in the island of Funen. The princess graced the baptism of the rose named in her honor – the Princess Marie.

Crown Princess Mary to bear twins


August 6 - Crown Princess Mary and his husband Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark is expecting the birth of a twin, due January 2011, announced Amalienborg Palace. The Danish royal family was elated to have heard such news.

According to Prince Joachim, Prince Frederik's younger brother, who was the first to learn, was very, very happy to have heard such “wonderful news.”

“Absolutely wonderful!” he said.
