Grand Duke Guillaume, Grand Duchess Stephanie celebrate wedding

Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stephanie during their church wedding

After the civil ceremony and the gala dinner that welcomed some of the world’s most glittering royalties, the church ceremony today finally highlighted the two-day festivities of the wedding of Grand Duke Guillaume and the former Countess Stephanie de Lannoy, at the Cathedral of our Lady of Luxembourg.

Crowds began erupting in cheers after Grand Duke Guillaume, 30, arrived with his mother, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. Meanwhile, the new Grand Duchess, 28, was given away by her brother Count Jehan de Lannoy. She looked regal and every inch a royal bride in her Elie Saab wedding dress, with its four-meter train adding the glass and grandeur that rivaled the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The wedding dress highlights three-quarter length sleeves and a silk tulle veil. Silver floral motif adorned it. She wore her own family’s tiara. The attendants, meanwhile, wore the traditional blue and orange Nassau colors. The ceremony was conducted in English and French and a minute of silence was observed in honor of the Grand Duchess’ late mother, Countess Alix de Lannoy, who passed away last August.

The entire Luxembourg is beaming with joy as the country’s heir apparent Grand Duke Guillaume, Europe’s last bachelor heir, ties the knot with Belgian aristocrat Countess Stephanie de Lannoy. The entire Luxembourg royal family was with the grand duke, 30, as he exchanged his vows with Countess Sophie, 28.

The newly minted Grand Duchess Stephanie is elegant in her cream Chanel, high-collared jacket and skirt as she and the grand duke waved to cheering crowd as they enter the Hotel de Ville.

Meanwhile, the groom’s mother, Cuban-born  Grand Duchess Marie Teresa, was glittering in the gold Elie Saab couture.

The wedding was officiated by Luxembourg’s city mayor, Xavier Bettel, who was very honored to have united the couple.

Mayor Bettel  added that he hoped the couple will enjoy "happiness and prosperity" in their marriage. He then went on to addressing their national responsibility, calling them "symbols of hope for the future generations of Luxembourg."

The mayor then spoke directly to Stephanie saying that on behalf of all Luxembourgers they were sorry her mother Countess Alix, who tragically died last August and was not able to join her on this special day.
Setting off on foot to the Grand Ducal Palace, the couple took over an hour to complete the 500-metre journey due to the volume of enthusiastic onlookers.
