Little Miss Lily Kate

Its been a while since I've posted about Lily Kate...I've been consumed with my 1st birthday girl and how quickly she is changing. Meanwhile, Lily has been keeping things lively around here. She has a lot of meltdowns and lives up to every bit of the "terrible two" hype...but I wouldn't change a thing about her big personality.

I've been trying to get Lily interested in ballet...mostly because I like dressing her up in tutus. ;) She does enjoy the outfits ("I wear tutu, mama!") but not so much actually going to the classes. We did a free trial class at Stubbs Music/Dance Center last month and a trial at the Tallahassee Ballet this morning. The second class was better...the teacher had better crowd control skills and Lily enjoyed the rhythmic scarves (see below). After the class I was talking with another one of the mothers who mentioned they assess your kid in October and decide if they will accept your child into their school of ballet. Whaaaat? For 2 year olds?! Based on Lily's performance in today's class, I could guarantee they'd give her the ax and crush all my dreams of her being a ballerina one day. We are going to try the 2 yr old class at Good Samaritan church next Saturday and if that one isn't a hit, we'll shelf the idea of dance class until sometime next year. We're also going to try to get into Trousdell gymnastics in January when they have their open lottery. I think it would be good for Lily to have a little hobby..and to practice following directions...but maybe I am jumping the gun?!

I love this picture below because it is how I will always remember 2.5 yr old Lily. Backwards visor, shoes on the wrong feet, and "sock puppet" on her hand...ready to run a few errands with the fam. Lily loves to pick out her own clothes (and accessories)...and put her shoes on by herself. If she gets the feet mixed up and you try to switch them, she will cry in protest. So independent (and stubborn!).

I already shared these pictures on my last post, but here is Lily again... in her element of playing outdoors..and with bubbles.

Lily has been doing and saying things that crack us up lately...but I'm so bad about remembering them. She is pretty cute about singing her ABC's...she says, "A, B, C, D, L-M-N-O-P...and then usually continues to repeat the L-M-N-O-P's, that what always the best part, right?!

My nappers are no longer napping...going to try to continue this post later...and with some better stories.

Here's a few pictures of Lily from last night. I was putting Brinley down, and I heard Lily knocking around in the bathroom. She was using her potty as a stool and attempting to wash her hands. She said, "I wash my hands, mommy." And then.."Look, it's on my cheek!" I need to start hiding the markers from my little budding artist.

I'm terrible at recounting funny Lily stories..but I'm going to attempt to recount a few conversations, so I can look back later.

On Father's Day:
Me: Lily, how old do you think Daddy is?
Lily: Umm, two!
Me: No, you're two Lily, how old do you think Daddy is?
Lily (assuredly): Oh, three.

A few nights ago at dinner:
Me: Lily, do you like corn?
Lily: Hmm...I like popcorn!

Tonight on her play Elmo phone:
Lily: "Oh hi Abby, uh-huh, ok, thank you!" (Hangs up.)
A few seconds later, "Hi Elmo! Uh-huh...ok...bye bye!"

Clint: That bow looks stupid on Brinley.
Lily: I stoo-pid, I stoo-pid!
Me: (Insert glare towards Clint)
Clint: Lily, thats not a nice word.
Lily: You stoo-pid, Daddy!

Lily, tonight to Memaw:
"I wanna go eat bay-bay at HI-HOP!" (Home girl loves her bacon at IHOP!)

And Lily's favorite game..
Mommy: Do you love me, Lily?
Lily: I love you Ma...Baby! (she pretends to say my name, and changes it to anyone but me! )
Mommy: hey...what about me?
Lily: I love you baby! I love you daddy! I love you nana! I love you memaw!
Mommy: sad face
Lily: giggle fit
