RSV, take two

Well, as hard as we tried to keep Lily away from Brinley when she got RSV from daycare (on the day Lily was born! UGH!)...my sweet little Brinley ended up getting the virus too. :( The pediatrician thinks that Clint probably gave it to the baby, because he ended up getting sick from Lily. We kept the girls apart for 11 days, but it wasn't really practical to keep Clint and his cough away from the baby for that long too. So...when Brinley was 2 weeks 2 days old, we noticed she had a pretty bad cough at night. The next day it seemed better, but we took her to the Pediatrician just in case. Dr.K heard Brinley's cough and said we should take her to TMH for a night of monitoring just in case. So Thursday, Sept 27th, we checked in to the hospital and sent Lily to my parents' house (again). The RSV test they did that night was negative, so the nurses said Brinley probably just had an upper respiratory infection and we could leave the next day. We spent the night watching her O2 saturation level on the monitor, giving her nebulizer treatments of albuterol, and using saline and an aspirator on her poor little nose. The next morning, they repeated the RSV test and that one was positive. :( So we stayed another night with the same drill. The doctors and nurses said Brinley was the best looking newborn with RSV they'd seen, as she really didnt seem too sick. Apparently there is such thing as a mild case of RSV??  I'd never been to the Peds floor of TMH, it was actually really nice and the nurses were all fantastic. That really helped make the three days we were there not too bad. Here are some pictures of my little trooper.

                                                    Before the head IV port.....

The nurses made Brinley pretty cozy in her bed...

They put the IV hook-up in a vein in Brinley's head because the other veins were too small. She never even needed an IV, I guess it was there just in case. Mama doesnt like anyone sticking things in Brinley's head! :(

We are glad Brinley had good medical care when she needed it...but even more glad she is healthy again!
